United Way of Metropolitan Chicago Announces Richard L. Jones and Anna Clarke Join Organization

United Way of Metropolitan Chicago (UWMC) is pleased to announce the appointment of two key senior leadership positions. Both will play an instrumental role to advance LIVE UNITED 2020, UWMC’s community-impact plan focused on investing in the building blocks to self-sufficiency—education, income and health within more than 40 communities of greatest need. Richard L. Jones, Ph.D. Jones joins the organization as Senior Vice President of Community Investment. He will be charged with the leadership, planning, execution and measurement of United Way’s strategic investment in the community under LIVE UNITED 2020. Most recently, Jones was Administrator of Employment and Family Services and the Child Support Enforcement Agency for Cuyahoga County in Ohio. Prior to this position, for 13 years, he served as president and CEO for Metropolitan Family Services delivering more than $390 million in programs and services to more than 600,000 people. “Richard is an incredibly well respected and recognized leader in the health and human services community both locally and nationally. I have had the privilege to work with Richard during his tenure at Metropolitan Family Services and believe that he is absolutely the right leader to help us achieve our plan with all of United Way’s many partners” said Wendy DuBoe, president and CEO of United Way of Metropolitan Chicago. In 2011, Jones received the Lifetime Achievement Award for the State of Illinois by the Illinois chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. Jones completed his MSSA and Ph.D. at the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences of Case Western University. He will join UWMC on September 17. “I am inspired by the vision of LIVE UNITED 2020 and believe United Way is well positioned to generate true impact in the communities served. With government resources dwindling, United Way is a key organization to invest in to create economic stability and self-sufficiency for kids and families in need. I am looking forward to working alongside the team to take United Way’s impact to another level,” said Jones. Anna Clarke Clarke joined UWMC as Vice President of Marketing and Engagement in June. A seasoned marketing professional, Clarke brings more than 20 years of marketing experience to her role at UWMC. Most recently she served as the Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the Chicago Zoological Society, the non-profit, conservation organization that manages Brookfield Zoo. Prior to the Chicago Zoological Society, she held senior marketing positions with companies including BP, Bank One, Coca-Cola and Pizza Hut. She will lead United Way’s marketing and communications effort to increase awareness and engagement of United Way’s work as well as community needs in the areas of education, income and health. “Research shows that at the moment United Way is the best kept secret in philanthropy. Anna’s unique blend of brand, product development and communications experience in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors will strengthen United Way’s brand presence in Chicagoland and mobilize people and resources to the cause,” DuBoe said. Clarke holds her Bachelor of Science in Marketing from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and received her M.B.A. from Indiana University. “As we advance LIVE UNITED 2020 both Anna and Richard bring the right level of talent to our highly-skilled teams of staff and volunteers within United Way. I am confident with their leadership we will make further progress on achieving our bold goals around LIVE UNITED 2020,” DuBoe said. Within more than 40 communities of greatest need, by 2020 United Way will: help 50,000 underperforming middle school kids enter high school ready to succeed, advance economic stability for 100,000 households, and connect over 200,000 people with available, preventative health services. In addition, annually, United Way will answer the immediate crisis needs of one million people every year by providing shelter, food and freedom from violence across our six-county region. Specifically, United Way supports resources in schools and early childhood centers to connect social service networks in the community where children receive tutoring, families access health services and adults secure job training and needed income supports.
