When the economy began tanking, a buzz of merger predictions ran through the non-profit world. With resources shrinking and too many organizations competing with each other, the time seemed ripe for consolidation. But nationally that hasn’t happened, at least on the scale predicted. Governor Pat Quinn signed the 2-1-1 Service Act to advance the development and implementation of a health and human services help line for the people of Illinois. The bill-signing was held at United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, which was instrumental in bringing this service to the state of Illinois.
