WHAT: April Food Day Aims to Collect More Than 30,000 Pounds of Food for Chicago Southland Communities
United Way of Metropolitan Chicago (UWMC) will host its annual April Food Day on Friday, April 1 to benefit local area food pantries across Chicago’s Southland region. The Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau and more than 50 hotels, park districts and municipalities throughout the Chicago Southland region are serving as collection points for donations of food and toiletries.
On April 1, all donations will be taken to the Tinley Park Convention Center where they will be packaged and delivered to Southland food pantries including Respond Now-Chicago Heights, Ford Heights Community Service Organization, Richton Park Food Pantry, Catholic Charities –South Holland, Restoration Ministries—South Holland, LBD Enterprises—Hazel Crest and Together We Cope—Tinley Park.
Local food pantries estimate that the need for food and toiletries has more than doubled in the past five years. April Food Day will help Southland food pantries meet need in spring and summer months when other donations typically decrease and supplies diminish.
